Managing terms in XTM Cloud

Finding terms in XTM Cloud
  1. Select the Terminology > Manage tab, and search for the required term.

  2. Select the term in the list to show its concept, metadata, and term equivalents on the right-hand side.

  1. Select the Terminology > Manage tab.

  2. Select the Add term button in the top right corner of the window.

  3. Enter the details of the term, its translations, and the approval status.

  4. Select Save.

Adding a term in XTM Cloud directly from XTM Workbench
  1. Select the required term in XTM Workbench and right-click on it to bring up the context menu.

  2. Select one of the Terminology options:

    1. Add term – quick to add the term with essential information.

    2. Add term – full to add more term details.

    3. Open Terminology to open the full terminology manager window:

      Note

      This opens the window with the project customer pre-selected in the Customer dropdown.

Adding an image to a concept term in XTM Cloud

In XTM you can add an image to a term concept to illustrate it. It must be enabled in the Concept configuration settings.

Note

The maximum file size is 25 MB. High-resolution pictures will be downscaled to the maximum supported picture resolution of 600 × 600 px.

  1. Select the Terminology > Mange > Concept section.

  2. Select the plus icon plus-solid.svg. Hover to Add image in one of the following formats:

    1. .jpg / jpeg.

    2. .bmp.

    3. .png.

    4. .gif.

  3. Select Save.

Editing terms in XTM Cloud

  1. In the Terminology > Manage tab, search for the required term and select it.

  2. Edit or add new information in the relevant fields.

  3. Select Save.

Approving terms in XTM Cloud

Users with Update and Approve terminology privileges can approve terms suggested by linguists during translation in XTM Workbench.

  1. Select the Terminology > Manage tab.

  2. Select Not approved terms. from the Status dropdown. Select Search.

  3. Change the terms’ status to:

    1. Valid.

    2. Forbidden: red in XTM Workbench.

    3. Rejected: red in XTM Workbench.

  4. Select Save.

Deleting terms in XTM Cloud

  1. In the Terminology > Manage tab search for the required term.

  2. Select the trash can icon trash-solid.svg to the right of the translation details.

The term is deleted.

  2. Select the Delete this translation trash can icon trash-solid.svg to the right of the translation details.

The term translation is deleted.

Deleting concepts in XTM Cloud

To delete the concept with the associated term and all of its term equivalents:

  1. In the Terminology > Manage tab search for the required concept.

  2. Select the Delete concept and all of its terms trash can icon trash-solid.svg to the right of the concept details.

The concept and all of its terms (translations) are deleted.

Deleting multiple terms in a batch

  1. Select the Terminology > Manage tab and run a search.

  2. To delete all found terms in one go select the Delete all terms trash icon trash-solid.svg in the term Search results section.

Simple term search in XTM Cloud

  1. Select the Terminology > Manage tab.

  2. You can search by different criteria by selecting values in the Search area at the top of the window.

    1. Narrow the search by entering one or more customers, languages, and other configurable field values.

    2. Use the Phrase field to search for a specific text string.

Terms that match your search criteria are displayed in the search results list box on the left side of the screen. You can export the search results directly from the Terminology > Manage tab by clicking the export button above the term list.

Advanced term search in XTM Cloud

To find terms using more advanced search criteria, open the Advanced search and fill in the fields as required.

Tip

A blue dot indicates advanced search conditions are applied.

  1. Select the Terminology > Manage > Advanced search bars-solid.png.

  2. Use these filters in the Other fields popup to narrow down the search:

    • Abbreviation.

    • Additional Info.

    • Concept ID.

    • Content.

    • Context.

    • Created at.

    • Created by.

    • Domain.

    • Gender.

    • Geography.

    • Modified at.

    • Modified by.

    • Notes.

    • Part of Speech.

    • Remarks.

    • Suggestion.

    • Term ID.

    • Term type.

Search results might also include terms that are not included in their search criteria – it is not strictly limited to your search criteria.

Tip

Administrators can add Terminology custom fields in Configuration > Data > custom fields.

Using term tags in XTM Cloud

Note

In addition to the standard and advanced search criteria, you can filter terms by tags.

The list of available tag filters depends on the tags created under Configuration > Data > Tags > Tags. A blue dot indicates that some tag filters are applied to the standard search.

  1. Select the Terminology > Manage tab.

  2. Select the tag icon tag-solid.svg

  3. From the available tag groups and tags in the popup select and assign tags to the concept, as needed.

  4. Select Apply.

You can also assign tags in a batch during import of a terminology list.

Deleting term tags in XTM Cloud
  1. Select the Terminology > Manage tab.

  2. Select the times.png next to the tag displayed in the tags popup.

Terminology configuration

Any active custom Terminology fields created in the Configuration tab will be available to choose from the dropdown list below the option Show in the extended view.

This provides control to select fields visible in the short and extended views, options to show the concept image or the footer, and to change the number of columns in which the fields are arranged

  • The selected fields together with the added information will be made available to linguists working in XTM Workbench.

Tip

Exception: the Note field is visible only in the Terminology tab and not in the XTM Workbench Terminology docked panel.

  1. Select the Terminology > Manage tab.

  2. Select the configuration icon cog-solid.png.

  3. In the popup, go to the Concept tab, select Show image.

  4. Select Save.
