Creating a chat from XTM Workbench

Note

From XTM Workbench you can create a chat that is referring to a particular segment.

To create a chat from XTM Workbench:
  1. In XTM Workbench, open the file for which you want to create a chat.

  2. Select the segment in which you want to create a chat.

  3. Right-click in the segment and select chat_icon_grey.png Create chat for segment from the context menu.

    Note

To set a keyboard shortcut for creating chats, in XTM Workbench go to the Settings > Shortcuts > General tab.

Learn how to set keyboard shortcuts in XTM Workbench.

  4. In the Create chat for segment popup:

    1. For the Reference parameter, select one of the available options:

      • Source – to refer to the source text of the selected segment.

      • Target – to refer to the target text of the selected segment.

In the Participants parameter you see who will be included in this chat:

      • This chat will include PM and all linguists in this project – when the Source option is used for the Reference parameter.

      • This chat will include PM and all linguists in this language – when the Target option is used for the Reference parameter.

In the Segment text parameter you see the source or target language text that you are referring to. If the chat is referring to an empty target language segment, the horizontal rule icon horizontal-rule-solid.svg is displayed in the Segment text parameter.

    2. For the Priority parameter, select one of the available options:

      • Low

      • Medium

      • High

    3. In the Message text field enter your message.

    4. If you are a Project Manager, for the Privacy type parameter, select one of the available options:

      • Private (default) – These chats can be viewed only by chat participants.

      • Public – These chats can be viewed by anyone, but can only be accessed in read-only mode if user is not a participant of the relevant chat.

Public chats created with an LSP are public on contractor's side. On the LSP's side however, they are only visible to the LSP PM. They are hidden from LSP linguists.

      Note

Project Manager can change the chat privacy type from the default to the selected setting from the Query Management popup (see Managing chats in the Query management popup).

If you are a Linguist, you can only see the value selected for the Privacy type parameter for the relevant chat.

When you complete all obligatory parameters, the Create chat button becomes active.

Chat boxes are only active in the most recently opened tab or window.
