XTM Connect – Adobe Experience Manager

Creating a continuous translation project from the Projects screen

A continuous translation project is one that handles frequent changes to source content. In a continuous translation project, content is monitored for changes. If a change is detected, the content is automatically send for translation in XTM Cloud again, to ensure that translations always match the latest source text.

To create a continuous translation project:
  1. In the global Navigation screen, select the Projects icon. You see the Projects screen.

  2. In the Projects screen, select the Create button in the top right-hand corner.

  3. Select Project from the dropdown.

  4. In the Create Project screen, select the template for the required translation project type: Translation Project. (The alternatives, DITA Project, Simple Project and Media Project are not relevant.)

The Next button, in the top right-hand corner of the screen, which was previously grayed out, is activated.

  5. Select the Next button. The Create Project screen, containing fields for the project's details, is displayed.

  6. On the Basic tab, enter these details:

    • Title (required. All other details below are optional).

    • Description

    • Start Date: if required, use the date picker to select the start date.

    • Due Date: if required, use the date picker to select the due date.

    • User: if required, select the User who is responsible for this project from the dropdown.

    • Owners: if required, select a user group in the dropdown, to assign the User to that group. The Members information field lists the other members of that group.

  7. On the Advanced tab, enter these details:

    • Name (required). This is the project name that a Project manager will see in the Projects tab in XTM Cloud.

      Note

If you enter forbidden characters such as ? or ! in the project name, these will be stripped out when the project is imported into XTM Cloud.

The project then imports correctly. This prevents projects from being rejected, and not imported, because of forbidden characters in the project name.

      Note

If you create a translation project in Adobe Experience Manager, an identifier is added to the project name in XTM Cloud to distinguish it from projects created in, for example, another CMS. This identifier is [AEM "source and target language codes"]. You see the project name in the XTM Cloud Projects tab.

      Example identifier: [AEM en_us - sv_se].

    • Source Language. Select the project source language from the dropdown. Example: "English (en)".

    • Target Language: Select one or more target languages from the dropdown.

    • Cloud Configuration: Select the required Cloud Configuration Path from the dropdown in this field.

    • Translation Method: Select Human Translation if you want the translation to be produced by a translation service provider, such as XTM Cloud, via XTM Cloud connector.

    • Translation Provider: if you selected Human Translation in the previous field, select XTM Connector in this field.

    • Translation Provider Credential: if you selected XTM Connector in the previous field, leave this field blank.

    • Automatically Promote Translation Launches: Select checkbox if required.

    • Delete Launch After Promotion: Select checkbox if required.

    • Automatically Approve Translations: Select checkbox if required. It activates translation approval in Adobe Experience Manager. By default, they are approved in XTM Cloud.

      Note

We recommend that you do not select this checkbox: translations can then be approved in XTM Cloud, by the relevant Translation requester. Any changes made to the translations following the Translation requester's review are then saved in the project translation memory for reuse. If translations are approved in Adobe Experience Manager, any changes made in them will not be saved in the XTM Cloudtranslation memory.

    • Select a Repeat Translation setting to create a continuous translation project. In practice, a Daily or Weekly Repeat Translation interval is most common. Options:

      • Daily: set interval, in days, and start time. Changed content will be sent for translation once on each selected day, at the selected time. The interval could, for example, be "every two days, at 6 pm".

      • Weekly: set interval in weeks, which day of the week and start time. Changed content will be sent for translation once a week, at that time.

      • Monthly: set interval in months, which day of the month and start time. Changed content will be sent for translation once a month, at that time.

      • Yearly: set which month, day of the month and start time. Changed content will be sent for translation once a year, at that time.

  8. Select the Create button in the top right-hand corner of the screen.

Result: the continuous translation project is created. The Create Project screen closes and you return to the Projects screen.
