Creating a single-language translation project (Sites > References)

Follow this procedure to translate a Language copy for a single target language. For details of how to translate to multiple target languages, see Creating a multi-language translation project (Sites > References).

To create a translation project from the Sites > References screen:
  1. In the global Navigation screen, select the Sites icon. You see the Sites screen.

  2. In the left-hand menu, select the dropdown menu. It expands and displays a list of options.

  3. Select References.

  4. In the site listing, select the "[your.page]" > Language Masters folder.

    Note

Here, "[your.page]" represents the name of the page for which you want to create a translation project.

  5. Select the source language site hierarchy node for which you want to create a translation project.

  6. In the References menu, select Language Copies. The existing Language copies are listed on the left.

  7. In the CREATE AND TRANSLATE section below them, select the Languages dropdown to display available target languages for your translation project.

  8. Select the required target language. The language you select will be mapped to your XTM Cloud instance.

  9. If required, select the Select all sub-pages checkbox.

  10. In the Project section, select Create Translation project(s).

  11. To enable inheritance of user roles and permissions, select a Project Master (optional).

  12. In the Title field, enter the project name.

This is the project name that a Project manager will see in the Projects tab in XTM Cloud.

    Note

If you enter forbidden characters such as ? or ! in the project name, these will be stripped out when the project is imported into XTM Cloud.

The project then imports correctly. This prevents projects from being rejected, and not imported, because of forbidden characters in the project name.

    Note

If you create a translation project in Adobe Experience Manager, an identifier is added to the project name in XTM Cloud to distinguish it from projects created in, for example, another CMS. This identifier is [AEM "source and target language codes"]. You see the project name in the XTM Cloud Projects tab.

    Example identifier: [AEM en_us - sv_se].

  13. Select Create.

  14. Select the language code for one of the Language copies (on the right of the list). Example: "EN". A context menu is displayed.

  15. Select the Go to Projects option. The Projects screen is displayed.

  16. In the Projects screen, find your new language translation project and open it. You see the new Translation job pane containing the Language copy that you created in step 6. to 13.

  17. At the top of the Translation job pane, to create a translation project containing your new Language copy, for XTM Cloud, select the down arrow to display the dropdown.

  18. Select the Request Scope option.

The translation project is generated in XTM Cloud. The Status changes to Scope Requested. The project is analyzed and, when the analysis is complete, the project status changes to Scope Completed.

    Note

For more information about viewing the scope details for a translation job, see Requesting scope (translation project cost).

  19. To send the project for translation, select the down arrow at the top of the Translation Job pane, to display the dropdown.

  20. Select Start.

Result: The project is sent to XTM Cloud for translation. The project Status changes to Translation in progress.
