Detaching Live Copies from their source

When you create a Live Copy, its configuration is saved on the root page of the copied pages. (A Live Copy can contain more than one page). All child pages of the root page inherit the Live Copy configuration. The components (content) on the Live Copy pages also inherit the Live Copy configuration from their original source (the file from which the Live Copy page was copied, in the relevant <language-master sub-folder> (identified by a language code)).

If you need to change these properties, or the content, without affecting the original source file, you must detach the Live Copy from its source. You can so so:

Detaching a Live Copy from its source temporarily

Detach a Live Copy from its source temporarily if you, for example, want to:

  • change its properties (which are usually inherited from its root source file, the file from which the Live Copy page was copied, in the appropriate <language-master sub-folder>),

  • rearrange its contents or

  • override existing content and create custom content for a specific market.

You can then reattach the Live Copy to its source, to ensure it continues to be synchronized with the source.

In the Adobe Experience Manager Multi Site Manager, detaching a Live Copy from its source temporarily is referred to as "suspending inheritance for a page".

For details, see Adobe Inc.'s online help about suspending inheritance for a page.

Reattaching a Live Copy to its source

When you reattach a Live Copy to its source, the relationship between them is restored and any changes made in the source are also implemented in the Live Copy.

In Adobe Experience Manager Multi Site Manager, reattaching a Live Copy to its source (after detaching it temporarily) is referred to as "resuming inheritance for a page".

For details, see Adobe Inc.'s online help about resuming inheritance for a page.

Detaching a Live Copy from its source permanently

Detach a Live Copy from its source permanently if you want to create a standalone copy of a source page.

Note

If you do so, you cannot reinstate the live relationship. All MSM-relevant properties are removed from the Live Copy and the Live Copy pages become a standalone copy.

For more details, see Adobe Inc.'s online help about detaching a live copy.
