XTM Connect – Adobe Experience Manager

Configuring Visual mode

When a source content page is sent to XTM Cloud, for translation, from Adobe Experience Manager, additional reference files can be sent with it, if required. Later, a Project Manager or Linguist can use these additional reference files to display a complete preview of the source content, in XTM Workbench. This preview, called Visual mode, is proprietary to XTM International.

To identify these additional reference files, the source content page contains in-line references to them. These reference files are sent with the source content (which is to be translated), but in a separate preview package (ZIP file). For more details, see How does Visual mode work?.

Note

If the joining function is enabled in a project, it is not possible to enable or use Visual mode in that project, in XTM Workbench. For details about the joining function, see Implementing support for the DITA standard in this Guide.

Restrictions on preview generation

In some cases, the assets required for preview generation might not be added to the preview package ZIP file correctly. For details, see Restrictions on preview generation in Visual mode.

Visual mode configuration tasks

To enable Project Managers or Linguists to use Visual mode to preview content, when they are using or translating in XTM Workbench, the way Visual mode handles Adobe Experience Manager content needs to be configured in Adobe Experience Manager. Refer to the table below for details of where to make the necessary settings.

Table 2. Visual mode settings

Task

See topic...

Enable Visual mode in Adobe Experience Manager.

Note

To enable XTM Workbench to display content previews in Visual mode, Visual mode must be enabled in the Adobe Experience Manager Configuration Manager. This configuration is part of a package, so the procedure described in the linked topic (on the right of this cell) does not normally need to be performed manually.

Enabling Visual mode in Adobe Experience Manager (if required: see Note in Task column).

Exclude unwanted reference files from preview packages, if required.

Reference filters section in Configuring preview filters for Visual mode.

Include certain additional types of source content file in projects sent to XTM Cloud for translation, if required.

Custom HTML reference patterns section in Configuring preview filters for Visual mode.

Disable generation of data-previewnodepath attributes.

These attributes control the way that content is exported to XTM Workbench, for use in Visual mode. They are used to affect the way that text selected in Visual mode, in XTM Workbench, is highlighted. This highlighting is called text decoration. It is based on the Visual mode decorating algorithm.
