XTM Connect – Sitecore Administrator Guide

Adding new languages to the Sitecore system

To enable translators to produce a version of an item in a new language, the new language must first be added in the Sitecore system settings. It can then be selected in a translation project, in XTM Connect – Sitecore.

To add a new language in the Sitecore system settings:
  1. Log in to Sitecore.

  2. In the main Sitecore screen, select the Control Panel icon. You see the Control Panel screen.

  3. In the LOCALIZATION section, select Add a new language. The Add a New Language pop-up window is displayed.

  4. In the Choose a predefined language code dropdown, select a predefined language, by its name. The language name is displayed in the Choose a predefined language code field and its details are listed below:

    • Language: the main language code. Example: "en".

    • Country/region code: the code that specifies where the language is used. Some languages have country-specific variants. Example: "US". In this case, the full language code would be "en_US", for American English.

    • Custom code: any other custom code that has been defined for the particular language code.

  5. Select Next. In the Add a New Language popup, you see other details for the selected language:

    • Codepage: the codepage used for a language is a set of encoded printable characters and control characters with unique numbers.

    • Encoding: the encoding used for a language is used to represent the characters in it electronically, to enable digital interchange of text.

    • Charset: the character set used for a language.

  6. Select Next.

  7. If you require a spellchecker, with which users can spell-check their entries, enter its name in the Spellchecker file name field.

  8. Select Next.

Result: a message confirms that you have added a language to the Sitecore settings. It can now be selected by Translation requesters when they generate new translation projects.

  9. Select Close to close the popup. You return to the Control Panel screen.
