XTM Connect – Jira User Guide for Administrators

Bucket settings in Jira

In Jira, make the following settings for each bucket:

Bucket setting

Description

Bucket name

Identifies the bucket. If there are multiple Jira filters and/or synchronization configurations, knowing the bucket name can make any updates to the configuration simpler in the future.

Jira filter ID or Jira filter JQL (Jira Query Language)

Translation issues are stored in Jira. During synchronization with XTM Cloud, the project filters defined in Jira are used to select translation issues that need to be sent to XTM Connect – Jira for translation. These filters are identified by their ID or can be found using a Jira filter JQL.

A bucket needs a filter ID to find the Jira tasks that it needs to handle. Set a unique filter for each bucket. If the same filter is set for more than one bucket, these buckets will all try to handle the Jira tasks involved, and the tasks will not be processed correctly.

This is because projects created on the basis of multiple Jira filters will have exactly the same settings.

Viewing a Jira filter’s ID

To find out a Jira filter’s ID:

  1. Activate the filter in Jira.

  2. Look at your browser’s address bar. The Jira filter ID is a number, displayed after “/?filter=”.

ExampIe: “99999” in https://jira.xxxxx.com/issues/?filter=99999 (dummy example URL)

Note

Jira filter JQL testing

Before you send a Jira filter JQL to XTM Cloud, test it in your Jira system to verify that the filter finds the required projects. Otherwise, XTM Connect – Jira will not detect new files or updates to files, on synchronization.

Specify if XTM projects are to be updated with changed files, on synchronization, or new XTM projects are to be created

In a continuous project, source files are replaced with newer versions, on synchronization. This prevents the creation of multiple projects with the same constantly evolving files. You can select this option, or choose to have a new XTM project created every time synchronization is performed.

Default customer ID

This is the ID of the default customer that will be used to create projects in XTM Cloud if no other customer is specified by setting a Default customer ID in the Customer custom field in Jira. You can find a customer’s ID in XTM Cloud. Select the Projects > Customers tab.

Hover over the circle-info-solid_blue_navy.svg icon there to display the customer ID and other information.

Template ID

XTM Connect – Jira takes almost all project data from a predefined template. This template is created in XTM Cloud. If you specify the template's ID in bucket settings, XTM Connect – Jira will pass the template ID to Jira, as a parameter, whenever XTM Connect – Jira creates a project for that bucket.

Project data that is not taken from a predefined XTM Cloud template, but from Jira:

  • project name

  • selected customer (see Default customer ID)

  • Source and target language combinations. You will find details of the language variant codes used in XTM Cloud in the XTM Cloud documentation. There, select the XTM Cloud manual for the required product version and then go to the Additional Information > Language codes topic.

You can find the XTM Cloud template ID in XTM Cloud. Select the Projects > Templates tab. Hover over the circle-info-solid_blue_navy.svg icon there to display the template ID.

Note

For more details about project templates, see XTM Cloud project templates for translation project creation.
