Create a project: Translation

This section provides information about mandatory and optional Translation parameters that you can use while creating a project in XTM Cloud.

Determines the language of the source file.

Pre-processing

This parameter is available if it has been activated in the Configuration tab.

Pre-processing can be used to:

  • lock segments so that they are not taken for translation

  • edit the source text prior to the translation when the new source language is the same as the original source language

  • make use of a pivot language in the translation process: source language is firstly translated into one language and then that target language becomes the new source for the translation into other target languages

The supported source and target language combinations depend on the Customer name you have selected in the General information section.

The default is determined by system settings or customer settings.

Note

The customer settings take priority over system settings.

New source language

This parameter is available if one of the Pre-processing values has been selected:

  • Yes, source segmentation

  • Yes, new source segmentation

This parameter allows selecting a pivot language in the translation process.

Target languages

Determines one language or multiple languages of the target text.

For translation

A single file or multiple files to upload for translation.

XTM limits the file size that you can upload at one time up to 550 MB for Public Cloud and up to 150 MB for both Private Cloud and Suite. If you have files that are more than 150 MB, compress them into a .zip file to reduce the file size.

Filter template

Specify configuration for identifying translatable text in a document. Learn more on how to configure filter templates.

Joining files

Enables you to merge files with the same file format.

When the project is created, the joined files will be displayed as one file for each file format. More joining file options, such as Join files by when Extended interface is enabled, can be configured on the Configuration > Settings > Projects > Joining files in sets. This simplifies managing the translation workflow. To use this feature, all the files that are to be joined should be uploaded in a single .zip file.

Note

Joining files does not apply to Visual mode feature.

Additional files

Allows to upload additional reference materials and/or preview files

Valid values:

  • Reference material - additional information that may assist in the translation process, such as a style guide, or a glossary

  • Preview file - images that do not need to be localized. Find out more about Adding preview images.

    Note

    The updating of the preview files must be done by the principal Project Manager and is not available to subcontractors.

  • Segment ID images

Segment filter profile

A set of predefined segment filters.

Administrators can create them in the Configuration > Settings > Translation > Segment filter tab.
