Translate in memoQ

Supported versions

memoQ 9.0 and higher

The Rigi Viewer for memoQ supports in-context editing of dynamic software applications.

memoQ integration key features

  • Translate in context (WYSIWYG): Selecting a text in the memoQ editor will automatically load a preview and highlight the selected text. Conversely, selecting a text in the preview will select the corresponding segment in your memoQ editor.

  • Process review comments from language testers: Selecting a comment from a language tester will display a preview with the corresponding text highlighted. It will also select the segment in your memoQ editor to which you can copy the suggested translation.

  1. Install the Rigi plugin for memoQ. For details, see the Install the Rigi plugin for memoQ guide.

  2. Import the Rigi XLIFF file into memoQ. For details about XLIFF files, see the memoQ documentation.

  3. Use the XLIFF 1 filter in memoQ.

    XLIFF 2 filter

In memoQ 9.13.7 and 10.2.11, for XLIFF 2, changing states is not possible. The fields remain grayed out when editing a newly created configuration. This problem might be fixed in future versions of memoQ.

  4. Ensure that you use the correct settings:

    1. Advanced tab.

    2. States tab.

Enable the option Change memoQ states into XLIFF states at export. Keep the default settings.

      Rigi XML filter

If the PM sent a Rigi XML file instead of Rigi XLIFF, use the Rigi XML Filter (for details, see the Install Rigi XML filter guide).

Open the XML file in the memoQ editor.

The Rigi Viewer will be opened automatically. For details about the Rigi Viewer, see the Rigi Viewer section.

  5. You can now translate in context:

    1. Select a segment in memoQ to display the corresponding preview in the Rigi Viewer. You can also right-click a text in the preview to select the corresponding segment in memoQ.

Blank screen in the Rigi Viewer?

You might see a blank screen if you start the Rigi Viewer for the first time.

In that case, try to select another segment in the memoQ editor.

    2. Translate in memoQ. When you accept the text, the text in the preview will be updated.

      Limitation - update on accept

The Rigi online editor will modify the text in the HTML preview while you are typing. However, the connector for memoQ has a limitation: it will show the translation after the segment has been accepted.
