Matches in XTM Workbench

XTM Workbench displays matches in the Matches docked panel. They are sorted by type of match (score) and then by the date on which they were created or changed. The Populate target with match settings made by your XTM Cloud Administrator for each of these match types also plays a significant role.

Default order of match types (scores) in XTM Cloud:

  1. ICE In-context Exact match (ICE).

    1. based on segment ID:

      1. with the Populate target with match checkbox selected.

      2. with the Populate target with match checkbox cleared.

    2. based on context:

      1. with the Populate target with match checkbox selected.

      2. with the Populate target with match checkbox cleared.

  2. 100% Leveraged match 100%.

    1. with the Populate target with match checkbox selected.

    2. with the Populate target with match checkbox cleared.

  3. R Repetitions.

  4. TM Fuzzy matches with the Populate target with match checkbox selected.

  5. MT Machine translation matches with the Populate target with match checkbox selected.

  6. TM Fuzzy matches with the Populate target with match checkbox cleared.

  7. MT Machine translation matches with the Populate target with match checkbox cleared.

  8. Internal Fuzzy matches (in score order and then in date order).

Important

The above-described order can be modified with the use of the TM penalty profiles. Your XTM Cloud Administrator can create TM penalty profile rules that change the priority for matches that meet these rules. For details, see Data — Tags — TM penalty profiles.

Hover over the Metadata column to display the following details for a match:

  • Customer name.

  • Project name.

  • Database ID.

  • Filename.

  • Date created: date on which the project was created.

  • Date modified: the last date a segment was changed.

  • Details of the users that the match was Created by and Modified by.

  • Source and target languages.

  • Segment status.

  • XLIFF:doc status.

Important

Your level of metadata access can be limited, depending on some system settings. For example, in the case of translation memory matches for confidential customers, you will not see the project and filename.

Updating TM matches and terms in a segment in XTM Workbench

XTM Workbench triggers an update whenever a user:

  • enters an active segment, in edit mode. In this case, the relevant segment and the next two segments are updated. If you use any segment filters (for details, see Apply filters popup), the two next segments returned by the filter criteria are taken into account.

Segments whose matches are to be updated cannot be locked for editing. Reasons for target segments being locked can be:

    • Your Project Manager has deselected the Allow editing of ICE segments checkbox for your project. As a consequence, Linguists cannot enter and edit the ICE segments in the project. For details, see Creating a project: Settings.

    • Your Project Manager has selected one of the options for the Mark segment as locked setting and the segment involved meets the option criteria. For details, see Creating a project: Settings. If a user has been granted segment unlocking rights, via the Allow editing locked segments setting, they can unlock and edit these locked segments. For details, see Adding user access rights.

    • You or another XTM Workbench user have locked the segment manually because you have been granted segment locking rights via the Allow editing locked segments setting. For details, see Adding user access rights.

    Important

At least 15 seconds must pass between two consecutive updates to the same segments. Otherwise, the matches will not be updated.

  • edits a TM match in the target segment. In this case, the relevant segment is updated.

    Important

The user concerned must have a TM Expert role to be able to update a TM match in XTM Workbench.

  • adds a term to terminology or edits an existing term in a segment. In this case, the relevant segment is updated.

    Important

The user concerned must have a Terminologist role to be able to update a term in XTM Workbench.

Updating Machine translation matches

Whenever a user:

  • enters a target segment, the active segment, and the next two segments are updated.

  • merges or unmerges a segment with its preceding segment, both segments are updated.

MT matches will never be updated if:

  • the segment is in read-only mode.

  • the segment has been merged with the preceding segment.

  • the segment contains alternative translations.

  • the segment is locked.

  • the segment has been excluded from translation with the use of an MT engine as part of an analysis configuration provided by the XTM Support Team

  • the segment has a match type that has been selected in the Do not search for an MT match when one of the selected matches exists setting. Therefore, machine translation is not requested for this match type. This setting can be made at:
