Visual mode in XTM Workbench

XTM Visual mode is used to generate a preview of the source and target file content. This enables a Linguist to see the full context for a translation as they are working on it. The Linguist can then click on a text in the displayed preview and enter a translation for it in the target segment. The target preview is immediately updated with the new translated text, showing what it will look like in the translated output.

Supported formats in XTM Visual mode

XTM Visual mode in XTM Workbench supports these formats:

  • HTML.

  • Word files (docx).

  • PDF (only supports editable PDF files).

  • XML.

    Note

To enable XML files to be displayed in XTM Visual mode, the system must be configured with the appropriate XSLT style sheets, to suit the types of XML file involved. Translation projects can then be created, and content can be displayed in XTM Visual mode, if selected by a Linguist.

To arrange this, contact XTM Support:

  • InDesign (recommended: IDML format).

    Note

Adobe InDesign IDML files can be processed in XTM Cloud out of the box.

However, you need an additional Adobe InDesign server to:

    • process Adobe InDesign INDD or INDB files.

    • enable Visual mode in XTM Workbench for all Adobe InDesign file extensions (IDML, INDD, INDB).

The Adobe InDesign server is not part of the standard XTM Cloud subscription. For details, see Adobe InDesign server. For pricing details:

When XTM Workbench detects any of the supported file formats, in a translation project, the Enable option is enabled in the Visual mode menu for the Linguist to select, if required.
