Creating a project: Translation

This section describes mandatory and optional Translation settings that you can make while creating a project in XTM Cloud.

Pre-processing

This setting is available if it has been activated in the Configuration tab.

Pre-processing can be used to:

  • lock segments so that they are not taken for translation.

  • edit the source text prior to translation when the new source language is the same as the original source language.

  • make use of a pivot language in the translation process: the source language is translated into one language and then that target language becomes the new source for translation into other target languages.

The supported source and target language combinations depend on the Customer name you have selected in the General information section.

Optional

Valid values:

  • No – enables pre-processing during project creation.

  • Yes, source segmentation – matches the new source text segmentation with the segmentation of the original source text.

  • Yes, new source segmentation – segments the new source text based on the content provided during the pre-processing step. As a result, the segmentation between the pre-processing and the actual translation workflow steps might vary.

The default is specified in the system settings or customer settings.

New source language

This setting is available if one of the Pre-processing options has been selected:

  • Yes, source segmentation

  • Yes, new source segmentation

Use this setting to select a pivot language in the translation process.

Pre-processing due date

This setting is available if one of the Pre-processing options has been selected:

  • Yes, source segmentation

  • Yes, new source segmentation

Use this setting to select the due date and time for the pre-processing step.

Target languages

Specify the target text language(s).

Use the chevron right icon circle_chevron_right_sharp_solid_brand_refreshed.svg to add languages and the chevron left icon circle_chevron_left_sharp_solid_brand_refreshed__2_.svg to remove languages.

The available target languages depend on the system and customer settings.

Subject matter

Specify the domain of the project source files.

For translation

Select a single file or multiple files to upload for translation.

In XTM Cloud the maximum total file size that you can upload at once is 700 MB for Public Cloud and most Private Cloud and Suite instances. If your files exceed 700 MB, in total, compress them in a .zip file to reduce the total overall file size.

QA profile

Quality assurance setting.

Optional

  • Global:

    • Predefined list of global QA profiles.

  • Customer-specific:

    • Predefined list of customer-specific QA profiles.

To customize the selected QA profile for your project, select the pencil icon pencil_solid_blue_brand_refreshed.svg to open the Project QA profile popup in which you can apply your changes.

Filter template

Specify the configuration for identifying translatable text in a document. For more details, see configuring filter templates.

Valid values depend on the configuration made by your XTM Cloud Administrator.

Joining files

This setting is only displayed if it has been enabled at system level (for details, see Joining files in sets) and customer level. The available options and default settings depend on system and customer settings.

You can merge files with the same file format.

When the project is created, the joined files will be displayed as one file for each file format. This simplifies translation workflow management. To use this feature, all the files that are to be joined should be uploaded in a single .zip file.

Note

The file joining options are not available for bilingual files.

When files are joined:

  • The pre-processing feature cannot be used.

  • Project target languages cannot be changed after the project is created.

  • It is not possible to update single files in the joined files in continuous project mode.

  • Visual mode cannot be enabled in XTM Workbench.

  • Selected.

  • Cleared.

If your XTM Cloud Administrator has enabled the Extended interface (for details, see Joining files in sets), you see these Join files by options:

  • Extension.

  • DITA Map level.

    If you select this option, you can enter the relevant numeric value in the text field.

The default is specified in the system settings or customer settings.

Additional files

You can upload additional reference materials and/or preview files.

Use the plus icon circle_plus_sharp_brand_refreshed.svg to add files and the minus icon circle_minus_sharp_brand_refreshed.svg to remove additional files.

Valid values:

  • Reference material – Here, you can upload additional information that might assist in the translation process, such as a style guide, or a glossary.

  • Preview file – Here, you can upload images that do not need to be localized, but are used in Visual mode and to create a PDF interactive file, in XTM Workbench. Find out more about Adding preview images.

    Note

    The preview files must be updated by the principal Project Manager. Subcontractors cannot do this.

  • Segment ID images.

Segment filter profile

A set of predefined segment filters.

XTM Cloud Administrators can create custom segment filter profiles. For details, see Segment filters.

Checkbox

Valid values depend on the configuration made by your XTM Cloud Administrator.

If you select any segment filter profile, the Enable linguist to turn the profile off checkbox is displayed. When you select it, Linguists working in XTM Workbench can disable the selected segment filter.
