Creating a chat from XTM Workbench

From XTM Workbench you can create a chat that is referring to a particular segment.
In XTM Workbench, open the file for which you want to create a chat.
Select the segment in which you want to create a chat.
Right-click in the segment and select Create chat for segment from the context menu.

To set a keyboard shortcut for creating chats, in XTM Workbench go to the Settings > Shortcuts > General tab.

In the Create chat for segment popup:
For the Reference parameter, select one of the available options:
Source – to refer to the source text of the selected segment.
Target – to refer to the target text of the selected segment.
In the Participants parameter you see who will be included in this chat:
This chat will include PM and all linguists in this project – when the Source option is used for the Reference parameter.
This chat will include PM and all linguists in this language – when the Target option is used for the Reference parameter.
In the Segment text parameter you see the source or target language text that you are referring to. If the chat is referring to an empty target language segment, the horizontal rule icon is displayed in the Segment text parameter.
For the Priority parameter, select one of the available options:
Low
Medium
High
In the Message text field enter your message.
If you are a Project Manager, for the Privacy type parameter, select one of the available options:
Private (default) – These chats can be viewed only by chat participants.
Public – These chats can be viewed by anyone, but can only be accessed in read-only mode if user is not a participant of the relevant chat.
Public chats created with an LSP are public on contractor's side. On the LSP's side however, they are only visible to the LSP PM. They are hidden from LSP linguists.
Note
Project Manager can change the chat privacy type from the default to the selected setting from the Query Management popup (see Managing chats in the Query management popup).
If you are a Linguist, you can only see the value selected for the Privacy type parameter for the relevant chat.
When you complete all obligatory parameters, the Create chat button becomes active.
Select Create chat.
Result:
The Chat has been created. Click on the chat ID to open. message is displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen. In XTM Workbench your new chat is visible in the Chats docked panel. The number in brackets stands for the number of chats that have been created for the selected segment.
Note
You can create many chats for each segment, as long as at least one of the following parameters is different:
Reference
Priority
Participants
When a user tries to create a new chat with the same parameters as in an already existing chat, the following message is displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen: Chat for this segment already exists. Your message has been sent.
When an error occurs during chat creation, the following error message is displayed in the bottom right corner of the screen: Chat has not been created. Try again.
Note
If you open XTM Cloud in a new tab or a new browser window, chat boxes opened in the previous tabs or windows become inactive.
Chat boxes are only active in the most recently opened tab or window.
