OR 2-2 Downloading a translation source file from XTM Cloud and creating a translation project in Trados Studio
You can download the translation source file for a translation task from XTM Cloud and then immediately create a Trados Studio translation project containing it. This has the benefit that the project creation wizard automatically recognizes the project source and target language, which are set in the source file. (You cannot change the source or target language, but you can configure the relevant language mapping between XTM Cloud and Trados Studio. For details, see Configuring the XTM Connect - Trados Studio plugin in Trados Studio.)
A translation task can only contain one translation source file. This creates a single-file translation task for you (the Linguist), in Trados Studio.
Note
In XTM Cloud, one job can be split into bundles. This is useful if it is large and needs to be worked on by more than one Linguist. A bundled file can then be handled as follows:
Full assignment: all segments in the translation file are assigned to one Linguist).
Partial assignment: only part of the translation file is assigned to one of the Linguists who will work on it, but that Linguist can see the entire file, when they are working in Trados Studio.
This enables them to see the segments they are translating in the context of the document as a whole.
In the XTM tasks project list, select the translation project whose source file you want to download. Its Studio status is New. To do so, select the checkbox next to the project's XTM project name. The Actions menu, above the XTM project name column, which was grayed out, is activated.
From the Actions menu, select the Download source file and create Trados Studio project option. The Create a new Project popup is displayed.
Select OK. The source file is downloaded to your computer.
In the Trados project template field, select the required project template from the dropdown. Only valid templates are displayed for selection.
In the Project name field, enter a different name for this project, if required: the project name that was defined in XTM Cloud is displayed in the Project name field, but you can change it if necessary. If you do change the project name, it will not be changed in XTM Cloud, so there is unlikely to be any benefit in changing the name in this field.
Beside the Location path field, use the Browse button to find your preferred location for storing XTM Cloud projects, on your computer. This enables you to set up different folders for XTM Cloud projects with different content types, for example.
If required, set the project due date, which you will be told by your customer's Project Manager. In the Due date field, select the icon at the end of the field, by the dropdown arrow. A date picker calendar field is displayed: select the required date there.
To confirm the date you have selected, click off the date picker.
Note
By default, if a due date is set for a project, in XTM Cloud, this date is also set in that project in Trados Studio. If multiple due dates are set in different tasks, in XTM Cloud, the date is set for all tasks in Trados Studio.
Below the Due date field, you see the Project Files section. There, you can see which source file the project contains, the source file's current workflow step (set in XTM Cloud) and the project source and target languages. (There can only be one target language. You cannot change the project languages.)
To create the project, with the settings you have made, select the Create button.
Result: the project is created. The popup closes and you return to the XTM tasks project list. You see that the translation task's Trados status has changed from New to Project created.
Note
If the project is not created, for some reason, the Create a new Project popup closes and a new popup is displayed. In it, a message tells you that your project (which it names) could not be created.
To close the popup and try and create the project again, select the OK button. Then follow the procedure describe above.
To report the problem to XTM Support (for example, after you have failed to create the project several times, and cannot find a reason for the problem), select the Contact XTM Support button. The XTM Support Portal screen is displayed in your browser. Enter details about your project creation problem and send them to XTM Support.
Alternatively, you can go directly to XTM Support Portal, and then select the relevant product and support request type to create a support ticket.
Once you have created the project, you can translate the source file in Trados Studio, in the normal way.
