Mapping XTM Cloud segment statuses to Trados Studio segment statuses
When you install XTM Connect – Trados Studio, a new file type is added to the File Types section in the Options screen. This new file type is called XTM Cloud XLIFF.
Note
To enable XTM Cloud XLIFF files to be used in your instance of Trados Studio, you need to add that file type to the files in the Studio File Types list. You only need to do this once, after installing the XTM Connect – Trados Studio plugin.
In XTM Connect – Trados Studio, the segment statuses used in XTM Cloud are aligned with the ones used in Trados Studio, for XTM Cloud XLIFF files. This alignment is called status mapping, in XTM Cloud.
Status mapping ensures that changes to the segments in XTM Cloud XLIFF files (for translation projects in XTM Cloud) that you work on in Trados Studio, finish and deliver to XTM Cloud are registered correctly. The most important reason for the new XTM XLIFF file type is that you can, if necessary, use it to change the standard segment status settings for the XTM Cloud XLIFF files that are supplied in XTM Cloud translation projects.

Only change the default segment status mappings if you are instructed to do so.

In status mapping:
A segment status that is defined in XTM Cloud is matched with an equivalent standard segment status in Trados Studio.
When the segments in a source file are exported to Trados Studio, from XTM Cloud, their status is converted to that equivalent Trados Studio segment status. This status is displayed in the Trados Studio Editor screen (in the central status column) when a Linguist is translating the file.
In XTM Cloud, you can use the Offline Editors parameters to specify segment statuses on export from XTM Cloud and import back into it.
There is a limitation on segment statuses, when segments are exported from XTM Cloud. Only segments with one of these statuses will be displayed in Trados Studio:
"untouched" (no status defined). These segments will contain no translation, and will need to be translated.
Translated.
Translated and completed.
The Trados Studio segment statuses are then converted back to their XTM Cloud equivalent when the segments are returned to XTM Cloud after translation. This ensures, for example, that:
incomplete segments are automatically flagged for any follow-on tasks (called workflow steps), such as Review, in XTM Cloud.
complete segments are sent to the relevant customer translation memory (TM), in XTM Cloud.
Note
Segments can, if required, be locked to prevent them being translated or changed. For example, ICE Matches might be locked because they require no work.

Segments are locked according to their XLIFF state-qualifier. A state-qualifier describes the state of a particular translation in a target element.

In Trados Studio, select File > Options > File types. You see the File types window.
Select the file type XTM Cloud XLIFF.
In it, select the Segment status mapping option. You see the Segment status mapping window. At the top, you see two status mapping-related sections:
File opening: contains settings that specify how particular XTM Cloud segment statuses are converted when the file they are in is imported into Trados Studio from XTM Cloud. These settings are listed in the File opening section settings table below.
File saving: contains settings that specify how particular segment statuses are converted back to XTM Cloud statuses when the file they are in is saved in Trados Studio and returned to XTM Cloud. These settings are listed in the File saving section settings table below.
Use the dropdowns in these two segment status mapping-related sections to adjust the required segment status mappings in your copy of Trados Studio, if that is necessary, and you have been instructed to do so. Refer to the tables below.
In each table, you see the default segment status mappings that are predefined when you install XTM Connect – Trados Studio.
The XTM Cloud XLIFF status below is a segment's XLIFF state, which indicates how much work has been done on it (its processing status).
If required, change individual segment status mappings from their default setting.

Result: when you use the XTM Connect – Trados Studio plugin to import XTM Cloud XLIFF files into Trados Studio, for translation, or return them to XTM Cloud, segments in these files will have the default statuses or the statuses you have selected above.
If required, remember to also define which segments are to be locked on import from XTM Cloud, in XTM Cloud XLIFF files, based on their state qualifier.
You can then use the XTM Connect – Trados Studio plugin when you are working in Trados Studio. You can connect to XTM Cloud and work on translation projects requested there.
