XTM Connect – Trados Studio 1.2

3. Translating the source text in Trados Studio

Once you have created the Trados Studio project containing your source text, you can translate it in the normal way, in Trados Studio. You can do this offline if you prefer: you do not need to be connected to XTM Cloud to translate a downloaded project.

Note

This Guide assumes that you are familiar with translating in Trados Studio. If you are unsure of how to translate in Trados Studio, refer to its online help.

Summary instructions:
  1. To open the Trados Studio project containing your source text, select the View tab at the top of the Trados Studio screen.

  2. In the View tab screen, select the Projects icon on the top left. All Trados Studio projects currently stored on your computer are listed.

  3. Find the Trados Studio project that you created for the XTM Cloud translation project that is listed in the XTM Tasks screen.

  4. Double-click on the Trados Studio project to open it. You see the source file, which is ready to translate.

  5. Right-click on the source file and then select Open for Translation from the context menu. The source file is displayed in the Trados Studio Editor. Any matches previously selected for automatic locking, when the source file is imported, will be locked, so you do not need to change them.

  6. Optional: if a TM has been provided with the source file, attach it to the project so that you are prompted with segments or fragments from it, if present.

  7. Translate the file in the usual way.

    Note

If a Project Manager writes a comment about a segment in the source file, you will be able to read it in Trados Studio.

If you enter a comment about a segment in the translation (Review > Add comment option), it will be saved with the translation, in the normal way. When the translation project is opened in XTM Cloud (for review or another purpose), the comment will be displayed there.

If the source file contains inline texts, they will be represented by tags.

  8. When you have translated the entire source text, and performed your usual personal QA checks, save your translation and close the file.

Result: This also closes the project. You are now ready to return the translated file to XTM Cloud.
