XTM Connect – Trados Studio 1.2

2-1. Downloading a translation source file from XTM Cloud

Note

You can choose to download a translation source file from XTM Cloud and then use the normal Trados Studio functionality to create a Trados Studio project containing the source file. There are two disadvantages to doing so:

  • You need to select the correct source and target language, and it is not easy to do without opening the source file and looking at the language codes in the header, at the start of the file.

  • If you create a project manually, in Trados Studio, it is not linked to XTM Cloud so it cannot be imported back into XTM Cloud, from Trados Studio, automatically, after the job is finished. A Project manager would have to import the project from Trados Studio manually.

For this reason, we recommend that you use the Actions menu Download source file and create Trados Studio project option (step 2.2) instead.

Translation tasks are listed by name in the XTM tasks project list XTM project name column. If a translation project has the status New (shown in the Studio status column, the translation project has been (automatically) fetched from XTM Cloud, and added to the XTM tasks project list, but a Trados Studio project has not been created for the project source file yet.

To download a translation source file from XTM Cloud:
  1. In the XTM tasks project list, select the translation project whose source file you want to download. Its Studio status is New. To do so, select the checkbox next to the project's XTM project name. The Actions menu, above the XTM project name column, which was grayed out, is activated.

  2. From the Actions menu, select the Download source file option. The Browse For Folder file manager popup is displayed.

  3. In the popup, select the folder to which you want the source file to be downloaded.

  4. Select OK. The source file is downloaded to your computer.

You can now translate the source file in Trados Studio.
