XTM Connect – Trados Studio 1.2

1. Seeing which tasks have been assigned to you

When you have logged in to XTM Cloud, in Trados Studio, via XTM Connect – Trados Studio, you see the main XTM tasks screen. It contains the XTM Cloud translation tasks that have been assigned to you. The XTM tasks screen is updated automatically so, when you open the project list, the projects in the screen are up to date.

For details, see below.

  • If the list is empty, or you want to fetch new translation tasks, see 2-1. Downloading a translation source file from XTM Cloud.

  • You can refresh (update) the list to take account of:

    • new tasks that have recently been created in XTM Cloud and have not yet been downloaded to your copy of Trados Studio.

    • tasks that you have finished and returned to XTM Cloud.

    Note

If you refresh the list, you also reset any filters that have been set, which are currently restricting the projects displayed in the list.

For details, see Refreshing the XTM tasks project list.

  • To filter the list, to see projects that are relevant to you, see Filtering the XTM tasks project list.

  • For details about moving around in the list, see Moving between projects in the XTM tasks project list

  • To sort the projects list in ascending order, by a particular column, click on the column header title. By default, columns are sorted in descending order. To sort the column in descending order again, click on the column header title once more.

Column heading

Description

XTM project name

The translation projects named in this column are projects that have been created in XTM Cloud.

This name is assigned to each translation project in XTM Cloud. This is not necessarily the same as the name later assigned to the same translation project when it is created from the downloaded source file, in Trados Studio. See Studio project name below.

File name

The name of the source file in XTM Cloud. You cannot change this.

Source language

The language from which the source file is to be translated. There can only be one source language per project.

Target language

The language into which the source file is to be translated. There can be multiple target language per project, but a Linguist will normally only translate into one of them, and receive the translation file for that language pair.

XTM due date

The date and time at which the project is due for delivery in XTM Cloud. The XTM due date is predefined in XTM Cloud and set in XTM Connect – Trados Studio, when the project is created from the downloaded source file, in Trados Studio. It is displayed in the main XTM Tasks screen at all times, unless a project is created manually, in Studio, and the source file is added to it then. For details of this exception, see Studio due date below.

XTM workflow step

Workflow steps are assigned to the translation file in XTM Cloud. Only standard CAT steps (Translate, Review, Correct or LQA) can be assigned.

Note

If the workflow step is "Review", the translated text cannot be edited. Only possible actions:

  • Add comments.

  • Change segment statuses.

Consequently, if an existing translation is changed, in a "Review", workflow step, the changes will not be returned to XTM Cloud.

Studio status

This can be one of three statuses:

  • New: the translation project file has been fetched from XTM Cloud and downloaded to Trados Studio. A Trados Studio project has not been created for the project source file yet.

  • Project created: the fetched translation project file has been added to a Trados Studio project.

  • Finished: the translation file has been translated in Trados Studio. Translation is complete and the translation project, containing the translated file, has been returned to XTM Cloud.

Studio due date

This column only contains a value if you set a project's due date when you create the project directly, in Trados Studio. That due date then applies, and not the XTM due date listed above, in this table.

Also see 2-1. Downloading a translation source file from XTM Cloud.

Note

We recommend that you do not create the project directly, in Trados Studio, but follow the steps in OR 2-2 Downloading a translation source file from XTM Cloud and creating a translation project in Trados Studio.

Studio project name

If required, you can set this name when you create the project from the downloaded source file, in Trados Studio. (You can also leave the default project name, defined in XTM Cloud, unchanged.)

Segments assigned

Number of segments that the source file contains.

Note

In XTM Cloud, one job can be split into bundles. This is useful if it is large and needs to be worked on by more than one Linguist. A bundled file can then be handled as follows:

  • Full assignment: all segments in the translation file are assigned to one Linguist).

  • Partial assignment: only part of the translation file is assigned to one of the Linguists who will work on it, but that Linguist can see the entire file, when they are working in Trados Studio.

This enables them to see the segments they are translating in the context of the document as a whole.

Word count

Number of words to translate in the source file.

Tip

If you want to see which jobs will need the most work, sort the XTM Tasks project list in ascending order, by the Word count column. The jobs with the highest word count will be listed at the top, so you can see them and prioritize them more easily, if required.

XTM manual time tracking

This value is assigned by a Project Manager, in the XTM Cloud Project Editor > Workflow tab screen.

Project ID

When you create the project from the downloaded source file, in Trados Studio, this project ID is generated and assigned to the project automatically.
